Monday-Friday | Drop-off/Pick-up: Lake Padden Park (East entrance)
Tuesday | Groups will take Wild Whatcom Bus to spend day at Marine Park
Sample Itinerary
Activities may vary depending on participant interests and variable safety considerations (i.e. weather, preparedness, support needs)
8:30-8:45: Flexible Drop-off
Play game while waiting for participants to arrive
8:45-9:30: Opening Circle
Introductions: Share names and pronouns (optional)
Cover physical and heart safety
Share plan for the day
9:30-9:45: Game: Where the Wind Blows
9:45-10:00: Snack Break
10:00-10:45: Bird ID Lesson
What birds do you already know about? Can you describe what they look like?
10 Second Bird Observation Challenge
Share Bird Guide photos for 10 seconds
Ask participants to think of as many observations as they can remember
Colors, size, beak shape, what it’s doing, songs/calls
How do we get to see birds?
Be quiet and Listen!
Stay Still -or- Keep Moving
Use binoculars if you want and try to see if you can find any birds around you

10:45-11:30: Bird ID Activities and Free Explore
Bird Journals
Search for bird nests. Play game: Guess the Nest
11:30-12:00: Lunch
12:00-12:30: Play Bird Games: Eagle’s Nest, Owl Eyes, or Hawks and Birds
12:30-1:15: Free Explore and Nest Building
Build an Eagle Nest or Squirrel Nest with dead, down, and detached materials
1:15-1:45: Storytime
1:45-2:15: Peaceful Place
Make up a bird and draw or write a story about it
What kind of beak does it have? What colors are the feathers? What songs does it sing?
2:15-2:30: Closing Circle
